Nitish should look into BPL APL issues: Raghuvanssh
Patna | Tuesday, Oct 27 2009 IST

Drawing attention of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar towards the irregularities in the schemes launched for the welfare of the poor, the RJD today asked him to seriously look into the issues related to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Above Poverty Line (APL) lists.

RJD MP Raghuvansh Prasad Singh wrote a letter to Mr Kumar in this connection and drew his attention towards the irregularities due to the anomalies in the BPL and APL categories.

He said that 56 lakh applications for rectification of the anomalies in the BPL lists were pending with the administration. The people were also frustrated with the delay and the apathetic attitude of the administration and the prevailing resentment among them would result into an agitation all over the state, he added.

Prof Singh said large scale bungling had been found in the welfare schemes due to the irregularities in the BPL and APL lists.

The poorer sections were being deprived of the benefits of the Indira Awas Yojana, Social Security Scheme, Electrification schemes, distribution of food grains and coupons and distribution of red and yellow cards. The situation was reaching alarming proportions and the people were forced to adopt an agitational path vouching for their rights, he said.

Prof Singh further stated that on several occasions he drew the attention of Mr Kumar towards the situation but the Chief Minister ignored it.
