India Robin Soderling to participate in Chennai Open
World number 10 Robin Soderling today confirmed his participation in the next edition of the Chennai Open, to be held from January 4-10, at the SDAT Tennis stadium in Nungambakkam, here. Soderling, the French Open runner-up, who defeated World number two Rafael Nadal before losing to Roger Federer in the final of the Grand Slam event this year, said he was keenly looking forward to take part in India's only ATP World Tour tennis tournament, next year. ''Chennai Open is a much-awaited event in the international tennis circuit. India is a fascinating country and I am looking forward to visiting India and playing at the tournament this year,'' Soderling said in a press release. Confirming his participation, Karti P Chidambaram, Chairman Chennai Open Organising Committee and Vice President, AITA said, ''Robin Soderling is a world class player and needs no introduction. His presence will set the adrenaline rushing at Aircel Chennai Open 2010 and will be a treat to watch as he will go for the coveted title.'' Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA) President, M A Alagappan expressed delight over the Swede star's participation, which he feels will amuse the players and fans here. ''Tennis fans in Chennai and India will be excited with confirmation from Robin Soderling. He is one of the top ranked players in the world and his presence with enthrall the players and fans alike.
