Chennai | Monday, Oct 26 2009 IST

'Giant Slayer' on the ATP Tour, Swede Robin Soderling, who had defeated Rafael Nadal at the French Open, has confirmed his participation for the 450,000 US dollar ATP World Tour Aircel Chennai Open 2010 to be held here from January 4 to 10, 2010. Soderling, ranked among the top-10 in the ATP rankings, has confirmed his participation in the tournament, an official release said here today. Aircel is the title sponsor for the tournament, which also has a consortium of other sponsors. The tournament is promoted by the IMG. In a press release here, AITA Vice-President and Chennai Open Organising Committee Chairman Karti P Chidambaram said 'Robin Soderling is a world class player and needs no introduction. His presence will set the adrenaline flowing at the Chennai Open 2010 and will be a treat to watch as he will go for the coveted title''.

IMG South Asia Managing Director Ravi Krishnan said Robin Soderlings participation gives the Indian and Chennai public a chance to watch a player regarded as a "giant slayer" on the ATP Tour." Soderling said ''Chennai open is a much awaited event in the international tennis circuit. India is a fascinating country and I am looking forward for the visit and playing at the tournament''.
