India Young murder accused turns artist behind bars
Amit, a young man facing a murder charge, has taken to sculpting and painting in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district. He is an artist at heart. Amit holds a diploma in fine arts. Supported by the jail authorities to pursue art inside the prison, he made an art workshop within his cage. Various exhibitions of his paintings have been held in New Delhi. Two of his paintings were claimed to have been brought by Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar and Rajesh Khanna. "They had come on November 15. There was Akshay Kumar, Dimple Kapadia, Rajesh Khanna and Twinkle Khanna. They had brought my paintings. One was of roman lovers and other was a centre table piece of hands," said Amit. The prison authorities are supportive of his work. "He is very talented and he is keen to teach the other prisoners as well. He had himself expressed desire to make these paintings and has worked hard on making them," said Sanjeev Tripathi, superintendent, Muzaffarnagar prison. By Iqram Ali (ANI)
