WIFW kicks off with Wendell Rodricks show;110 designers in line up
New Delhi | Saturday, Oct 24 2009 IST

The Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2010 Kicked off here today with renowned fashion designers Wendell Rodricks, Tarun Tahilliani, Ashish Soni and Rohit Bal showcasing their collections on the ramp at the event.

The inaugural show, which marked Wendell rodricks's return to the Delhi fashion scene, saw the designer showcase "The Cubist" collection, bringing together all the elements that made the Goa-based designer India's Guru of minimalism and the pioneer of eco friendly resortwear in the country.

The collection, where Wendell looks at fabric and form through the cubist eye, speaks of modernity and vision translation of the original cubist artists of the dawn of the last century.

The sole print in the collection features square edged sea horses spouting cube shaped "air bubbles" in water.

The Narendra Kumar Spring Summer 2010 collection draws inspiration from the process of introspection.

The collection starts with a clean palette of natural biege and it progresses to deeper palettes of blue and finally ends with depth of black some in solid and some pieces highlighted with shimmer and shine, reflecting the constantly changing process of thought even in the darkest stages, reaching almost a meditative aura.

The design details are inspired by a Japanese sensibility which reflects a zen like simplicity but still modern and contemporary with the sharp tailoring that is a key element in all Narendra's collections.

The opening of the five-day event, being held in Delhis Pragati Maidan, by Mumbais crme de la crme designers - Wendell Rodricks & Narendra Kumar - marked the beginning of what promises to be a glittering affair with as many as 110 fashion designers, ranging from maestros like Tarun Tahilliani, Ashish Soni, Rohit Bal, Ashima and Leena, Ranna Gill, Ritu Beri, Meera and Muzaffar Ali, Ritu Kumar, Sanjana Jon and Reena Dhaka to promising young designers like Nimirta Lalwani, Shantanu Goenka, Amit Aggarwal and Jason Anshu showcasing their collections at the fashion event, to be held till October 28.

The fashion maestros along with promising young designers will display the very best of Indian fashion under one roof, affording buyers and consumers the widest possible selection for men and women. The designers will market the finest of Indian fashion to domestic and international buyers, fashion enthusiasts, media and other industry stakeholders, making WIFW Spring/Summer 2010 a world class event exhibiting the very best of Indian talent.

Like previous editions, the latest edition of the WIFW too is expected to be a glitzy affair with a host of celebrities from the tinsel world of Mumbai expected to grace the ramp at the event.

Among the tinsel town celebrities expected to add glamour to the WIFW S S10 are former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen, Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khan, the new heartthrob Emraan Hashmi, actress-turned-politician Jaya Prada, the ravishing Riya Sen and her sister Raima Sen, the pretty Amrita Rao, actor Nandana Sen, the lovely Nandana Sen, the pretty Brazilian actress Giselle Monteiro (who played Saifs love interest in Love Aaj Kal) and the new kid on the bloc Shruti Haasan.
