India BSNL launches 3G Service in Nagaland
Telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigal Limited (BSNL) today launched the 3rd Generation of Mobile Communication Service in Nagaland, the second state in the North East after Guwahati. Addressing a press conference here this afternoon, Arjun Singh, GM (Mkt), Sauwal GM (FTR), Sarob Gupta (GM (Mob) and J B Ramesh, GM (Nagaland) today said that the 3G Service is twenty times faster than the present 2G Service and the service is enriched with multi-media facilities at the reach of common people. Mr Gupta said that the aim and objective of the BSNL is only to serve the people of the remote parts of the country and to bring them at par with other parts of the world with modern and easy facilities. He said that the multi-media facilities included Video calling, Broadband connectivity, Mobile TV, faster video download, video conferencing and online gaming. Presently, the facility of 3G service is made available in Kohima and Dimapur only with High Speed Package Access (HSPA), with the fitting of 3G equipments in 31 BTS (transmission towers) in Dimapur and 16 BTS in Kohima. Speaking to the media, Mr Arjun Singh said that the North Circle II of BSNL included Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, besides Nagaland and the next step to introduce the 3G Service would be Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh within a few days. About the Manipur state, he said that due to insurgency problem the BSNL so far had no plans to introduce the 3G Service in that state. However, he hoped that it would be introduced as soon as possible. He said that after introducing the service in Itanagar, the expansion of 3G Service in Nagaland would be taken up from Mokokchung followed by Wokha and so on.
