Aamir Khan, Anil Kapoor noted absentees at 55th Natfilm awards
New Delhi | Wednesday, Oct 21 2009 IST

The 55th National film awards function was low on the glamour element with stars like Aamir Khan and Anil Kapoor, whose movies 'Taare Zameen Par' and 'Gandhi My Father' were among the awardees.

Aamir, whose film 'Taare Zameen Par' won the National Award for Best film on Family Welfare, was not present at the function and the award was received on his behalf by lyricist Prasoon Joshi.

Asked about the absence of Aamir, lyricist Prasoon Joshi said, ''Aamir could not make it as he is busy with his next film 'Three Idiots'. He is currently into the last phase of the completion of his film.'' Also among the star absentees was film star Anil Kapoor whose debut production venture 'Gandhi My Father' won a Special Jury award. The award was received on Anil's behalf by his daughter Sonam Kapoor.

Film producer Aditya Chopra, whose film won the award for Best film providing wholesome entertainment, too was among the absenties with his award received by his father Yash Chopra.

About his absence, dad Yash Chopra, a veteran filmmaker who has given to the film industry several memorable romantic films, said,''Adi (Aditya Chopra) is totally obsessed with his work. Hence, he could not make it.'' Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan, who won the Best Choreographer award for 'Jab We Met' also could not make it to the awards function with her award being received by her relative Shabnam Khan.

In the absence of Aamir, Anil and Saroj Khan, the glamour element to the event was lent by the petite Sonam Kapoor, the lovely Shefali Shah (who won the Best supporting actress award for 'The Last Lear'), playback singer Shreya Ghosal, singer Shanker Mahadevan, playright-turned filmmaker Feroz Abbas Khan and actor Darshan Zariwala.
