K'taka CM to lead all party delegation to Delhi on Oct 20

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today said he would lead an all party delegation to New Delhi on October 20 to appeal to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to release of more funds for taking up flood relief works in the 16 affected villages of North Karnataka.

Talking to reporters at Tungabhadra village in the district, he said the State Government was committed to shift the villages in low lying areas on the banks of the Rivers Krishna, Tungabhadra and Bhima to safer places on a permanent basis.

The officials have been asked to submit a feasibility report in this regard at the earliest he added.

Infusing courage to the flood victims Mr Yeddyurappa assured to enhance the compensation for collapsed and damaged houses. Do not take drastic steps of committing suicides. The Government is here to extend you all possible help. Compensation to the damaged crop will be given to the eligible farmers, he promised.

Mr Yeddyurappa, who visited the Road Bridge across the Tungabhdra river, said the bridge, connecting Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh was badly damaged. A new bridge would be constructed at a cost of about Rs 250 crore.

He said he would write a letter to the Prime Minister and speak to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah in this regard.

Earlier, the Chief Minister visited several flood affected villages, including Thallamoor, Thikkamanchuli, Deodurga and interacted with the victims. Later, he also visited some flood affected villages in Surpur Taluka in Gulbarga district.
