India After Rahul, Sonia gives thums-up to Hooda's leadership
Putting an end to speculation over who would lead the Congress Legislature Party in the event of the party winning a majority in the October 13 assembly elections in Haryana, AICC president Sonia Gandhi today hinted that the Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda would continue to ''lead the state''. ''Mr Hooda has done a wonderful job for the people of Haryana during his present term and if lead the Congress to victory in the assembly elections on October 13, Haryana will make further progress under his (Hooda's) leadership, she said while addressing election rallies at Jhajjar and Nuh on the last day of the campaign. Interestingly, Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary, had yesterday also given the thums-up to Mr Hooda's leadership. In her speeches at the two rallies, Ms Gandhi launched a frontal attack on the Opposition, naming the INLD and the BJP, for neglecting Haryana. She asked the audience if any previous government did what all had been done by the Congress Government, led by Mr Hooda. She urged the people not to be misled by the false promises being made by the Opposition parties and asked them to come out in large numbers on October 13 and put their approval on the 'hand' symbol. Listing out various developmental and people oriented schemes implemented by the Congress government in the state, she asked the audience whether any other government had waived off loans of farmers. The public responded by gesturing that only the UPA-government had taken this bold intiative. She also asked the people present about employment oriented schemes like NREGA. She pointed out that it was the Congress which had given reservation to women in Panchayats. Stating that the Congress stood for peace, security, prosperity and the rule of law as compared to the 'mafia raj' of the Opposition parties. ''The Congress is a movement, not a mere party, it is, in fact, a party of great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi who had given their blood to build a secular and prosperous India'' she said. -- (UNI) -- 11DR44.xml
