I was scared to do 'Aladin': Jacqueline Fernandez
Gurgaon | Sunday, Oct 11 2009 IST

Miss Sri Lanka and debutant Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez says she had never seen a Hindi movie before acting in her maiden film 'Aladin' and was actually scared when it was offered to her.

''When I was offered this movie, I was scared. They did not even mention the cast to me which included bigwigs like Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Riteish Deshmukh. So, I did not do the movie for Big B as such. But today I realise that I could not have had a better choice than 'Aladdin'. It turned into a lot of excitement,'' she told UNI after strutting for a fashion show featuring Satya Paul's Bridal Couture Collection 2009-10 here.

However, she does admit that she was lost for words when she faced the Big B for the very first time. ''He's incredible in 'Aladin'. When I acted with him, I wondered jaane kahan se aaye hain!'' The wonders did not end there for one who had never seen a Hindi film. Fernandez says she was also awed by the magnificence of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Devdas' when she saw it.

Speaking about her role in 'Aladin' which is a modern take on the legendary fable of Aladin and his magic lamp, she says, ''I play the role of Jasmine in this different adaptation of Aladin. I befriend a boy Aladin played by Ritesh and end up gifting him the magic lamp one day.'' The debutant actress underwent a lot of training for the film.

''I took a lot of dance classes. And, I still take my Hindi diction classes. Still, I have dubbed for myself in the movie. Hindi is new to me as my mother tongue is English, but I trained myself for that too,'' revealed Fernandez.

Being a debutant, she has indeed learnt some lessons also. ''To be honest, there were people who were skeptical about me and gave me all those warnings but I have learnt that you should have passion about what you do. Then, nothing can be negative and you can have no bad experiences,'' asserts Fernandez.

Asked about her aspirations, the actress says, ''Right now, it's just taking my career to the next level and doing hard work.''
