Azhar, Sunil Shetty to seek vote for Rajendra Shekhawat

Amravati constituency, which is the cynosure of all political watchers for the October 13 Maharashtra Assembly elections, will see star campaigners like cricketers and cine actors pitching in their lot to woo voters on behalf of Rajendra Shekhawat, the son of President Pratiba Patil.

Mr Shekhawat, who has to cross the first hurdle of winning votes from the Congress rebel candidate and Minister of State for Finance Sunil Deshmukh, is working overtime and is garnering all help to ensure victory.

Congress sources told UNI that Chief Minsiter Ashok Chavan will address a rally on October four along with former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin, MP and actor Sunil Shetty. Mr Deshmukh, who had been elected twice from the constituency in the previous elections had been denied party ticket, which went in favour of Mr Shekhawat. The constituency had also changed its flavour after the delimitation process. The Congress tried to persuade Mr Deshmukh to withdraw, but he did not. Also in the fray is Pradeep Shingore of the BJP.

Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi and General Secretary Rahul Gandhi would also campaign on October 5 and 6.
