Indo-Pak govts should lift visa restrictions, says Pak grapplers
Katra | Wednesday, Sep 23 2009 IST

Thrilled over the warm reception they had in holy town here, the Pakistani wrestlers said both India and Pakistan governments should lift visa restrictions to restore peace and strengthen relation between two countries.

The Pakistani wrestlers were in India to participate in a day-long Indo-Pak 'Mission Dosti' wrestling competition organised annually as a part of navratra festival here in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Expressing their feelings about the welcome, the Pakistani wrestlers at the dangal site told UNI that they felt it like coming home.

''I was never scared of visiting India for wrestling competitions,'' Mohammad Shahid from Sialkot, Punjab, Pakistan told UNI.

Shahid said it was the third time he is participating in 'Mission Dosti' competition here and he always found it like contesting in Sialkot.

''When people have similar characteristics, languages, traditions on both sides of the border, then what borders meant for,'' the wrestler said.

He feels that both the nations should enter into a dialogue and if possible, lift visa restrictions so that people on either sides move freely and meet their dear ones.

Meanwhile, for Mohammad Ali, borders are creations of vested interests and the political mindsets.

''It takes no time for borders to melt as people on both the sides want to live in harmony but it is the governments prerogative to take initiatives at their ends,'' Ali, a resident of Gujranwala, added.

He feels that borders are artificial barriers to restrict human movement but still they cannot stop anybody spreading a message of peace.

Pakistan's national champion Ali also fought against Beijing Olympics bronze medalist Sushil Kumar at Delhi but lost.

''I will act as a messenger and depict the real picture of India. The way we were treated and the affection showered on us, is appreciable, which never made us to feel away from our hometowns,'' the grappler added.

Meanwhile, India defeated Pakistan 3-1 and won the Indo-Pak 'Mission Dosti' Dangal competition for the fifth consecutive year as in the final bout Rustam-e-Hind Hatish Kumar Yadav of Haryana beat Rustam-e-Pakistan Bashir Bholla Bhalla.

In all seven wrestlers from Pakistan took part in the event, which is an annual feature organised by the Indian Style Wrestling Federation to develop cordial relations between both the countries.
