Paes rooted to 8th, Bhupathi rises to 6th in doubles list
New Delhi | Tuesday, Sep 15 2009 IST

Despite claiming a 10th Grand Slam title at the US Open, Indian tennis ace Leander Paes remained static at the eighth spot in the ATP doubles rankings while estranged partner Mahesh Bhupathi rose a rung to sixth.

Sania Mirza, who had a disastrous singles campaign at Flushing Meadows, moved up an amazing 11 places to 63rd in the WTA charts despite her second-round exit from the US Open. She also rose in the doubles chart, taking the 41st rank with 2105 points. Paes held on to the eighth place with 6710 points while his Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy actually went down a spot to seventh in the latest list.

Mahesh Bhupathi, who had lost to Paes the US Open men's doubles final, had a total of 7,030 points to his name while his Bahamian partner Mark Knowles remained rooted to the fifth position.

In the ATP singles rankings, Chennai Open finallist Somdev Devvarman reaped the benefit of his gutsy show at the US Open.

Somdev, who entered the event as a qualifier before bowing out in the second round, broke into the top 150, rising 29 places to the 133rd position.
