Sourav Ganguly to support TCA for cricket development
Agartala | Monday, Sep 14 2009 IST

Former captain Sourav Ganguly has announced volunteering Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) to develop cricket environment in the state as well as impart training to upcoming talents.

Addressing a gathering here last evening Ganguly said he was ready to extend support to Tripura and if necessary, TCA could send the talented aspirants to his cricket academy.

Not only Tripura, the entire eastern India has huge cricket talent and they need proper guidance and sincere practice, he stated.

''I found the cricket infrastructure in Tripura is not less in any way from any other state in the country and MBB College stadium in Agartala has now become an international standard one,'' Ganguly said, adding he would extend all technical support to TCA.

During interaction with cricketers he gave some valuable tips and suggestions and instructions to the budding cricketers, impressing on the pace bowlers the importance of landing the ball in the right areas. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar urged Sourav to contribute for development of Indian cricket while requesting him to make a future plan to stay here for few days and meet more sportsmen of Tripura in which the state government would provide all out support to him.

''Since Sourav is one of the cricket icons of India, he has to contribute for all the states equally and we are ready accepting his suggestions and advice for development of sports in Tripura,'' Mr Sarkar said.

Sourav Ganguly arrived here yesterday afternoon on a one-day visit and attended several programmes in Agartala, including interaction with upcoming cricket players and TCA officials.

''We have urged him to impart training to our cricketers and advised TCA over encouraging cricket talent,'' Mr Sarkar said, adding the initial discussion had already been completed and Sourav had agreed to extend support.
