Chennai | Wednesday, Sep 2 2009 IST

Saint-Gobain Gyproc Limited, a part of Saint-Gobain and a market leader in interior construction has chalked out plans to launch an agressive marketing strategy for its Drywalls solutions and double its turnover to Rs 600 crore in the next two years.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr John Nelson, Saint Gobain Gyproc, UK and Mr N E Subramanian, General Manager, Marketing, said worldwide, drywalls was being preferred as a solution in offices, hotels, hospitals and residences and the company was all set to explore the potentials in India.

''We see a great potential in the Indian market for our products and systems and see a need to create awareness at the user level to catalyse an increase in demand,'' they said.

The market for Gypsum Plaster boards in India was 25 million sq ft and Saint Gobain Gyproc was selling 20 million sq ft, clearly emerging as the market leader, Mr Subramanian said, adding, the company, which had four plants in India, had a total production capacity of 40 million sq ft.

''Presently, the turnover is Rs 300 crore and we have chalked out plans to double the turnover in the next two years,'' he said, adding as part of launching an agressive marketing, the company proposed to conduct seminars and create awareness programmes on the salient features of drywalls.

The drywall is eight to ten times lighter than traditional masonry construction walls, 30 to 40 per cent faster to install, provide excellent fire rating and acoustics and are 100 per cent recyclable.

Special drywalls were available for various conditions in the country. It was catching up in some of the western cities in India and plans are afoot to take it to the Pan India level, Mr Subramanian said.
