Hyderabad | Wednesday, Aug 12 2009 IST

Men's singles top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia and Womens No.1 seed Mi Zhou of Hong Kong moved into the third round posting easy victories in their matches in the world badminton championships here today.

Lee, a silver medallist in Beijing Olympics, brushed off Ola Fagbemi of Nigeria 21-11, 21-14 to record a straight-game win in 22 minutes.

Mi, who got a first round bye, found it easy racing to a 21-11, 21-15 win over New Zealand's Chan Ky Michelle in just 27 minutes.

''I am still trying to adapt to the conditions'', Mi said after her second round easy win.

However, Lee is likely to have it tough in his next match against Tien Minh Nguyen of Vietnam to whom he had lost recently in Singapore Open. Tien, 14th seed, moved to the third round with 21-14, 21-16 win over Frenchman Brice Leverdez. Both Mi and Lee are looking at their maiden World title.

Third seed Peter Gade of Denmark and 4th seed Indoensian Taufik Hidayat with straight-game victories advanced into the third round.

Gade beat Japan's Sho Sasaki 21-11, 21-12 while G Taufik posted a 21-17, 21-15 win over Frenchman Mathieu Lo Ying Ping.

Seeded players Yu Hsing Hsieh of Taiwan, who beat India's National Champ Arvind Bhatt yesterday, along with Sony Dwi Kuncoro Simon Santoso (both Indonesia), Chan Yan Kit of Hong Kong and Boonsak Poncona (Thailand) also moved into the third round of men's singles.
