Aurangabad Asian Body Building Championship is illegal: IBBF

The IFBB Asian Body Building Championships, to be held at Aurangabad from July 24 - 27, received a massive blow with the Indian Body Building Federation (IBBF) today terming the tourney as an 'illegal' one not being recognised by the Union Ministry of Sports.

Addressing a press conference in Aurangabad, IBBF Vice President Sandesh Narvekar, disclosed that the original 43rd Asian Bodybuilding Championship will be organised by Thailand Bodybuilding Association with support of Thailand Olympic Committee and Sports Council of Thailand under the patronage of ABBF, which is a member of the Olympic Council of Asia. He further said a nine-member Indian squad for the official Asian championships, to be held at Pattaya (Thailand) from August 11 to August 17, 2009, has been selected and the team is as follows: Daljit Singh, Punjab Police - 60kg Mohammad Illiyas, Chandigarh - 65 kg Mohmmad Abdulla, Karnataka - 70kg Rahul Bisht, Uttara Khand - 80kg Vijay Bhadur, U.P. - 85kg Viney Pandy, India Railways - 90kg For Junior Group Sujeet Kumar Bora, Assam - 75kg B. Kadiravan, Pondichery - 80kg Master Group Kartikeswar Jena, Orissa - 50+years Team Coach - Dr. TusharKanti Sil, Ordinance Sports Board Team Manager - Mr. Balbir Singh, Indian Railways.

Also present at the press conference were IBBF President Baba Madhok (President), IBBF Executive Director Amit Swami and IBBF General Secretary G S Nayak.
