Students stage sit-in-protest in Lalgarh
Lalgarh | Friday, Jul 10 2009 IST

Taking the reins of the movement from the hands of the tribals in Lalgarh, the students community here today resorted to a sit-in protest on the Jhargram-Binpur road demanding immediate reopening of their schools. The students were protesting against occupying a number of schools in the West Midnapore districts preventing regular classes in these institutions. SDO Jhargram Ulaganathan said movement of vehicles on both sides of the road was completely paralysed from 0800 hrs to 1400 hrs following the blockade and was later withdrawn in the day. District Magistrate N S Nigam informed that 15 school buildings had been taken by the district administration from June 26 in Midnapore, Kharagpur, Salboni, Goaltore, Lalgarh, Binpur and Jhargram areas to accommodate about 50 companies of the combined forces since the Maoist Flush-Out operation started about three weeks back.

Mr Nigam had requested the SP Midnapore West M K Verma to vacate the schools immediately following the representation from students and their guardians and take shelter in the Panchayet and government buildings. ''Despite my repeated requests the forces are not vacating the school building of Ramkrishna Vidyapith here,'' said Backwards Classes Welfare Secretary R D Meena.

The school committee Secretary of Arya Vidyapith in Kharagpur, Jyotilal Banerjee said even after fifteen days of their occupation the forces are not leaving the school campus affecting study in the school.
