India SEWA radio unit gets Govt nod for community radio station
Self-employed Women's Association's (SEWA) radio unit 'Rudi No Radio' has recently got permission from the government to start its own community radio station (CRS) in Manipur village and other villages, within 10 km radius. This CRS will be the 49th in the country and operational within the next three months, from SEWA academys rural training centre at Manipur village in Sanand taluka of Ahmedabad district. According to Radio unit's Managing Director Namarata Bali, 'Rudi No Radio' has already successfully transmitted 200 episodes in partnership with All India Radio. It is entirely managed by women, who have had no formal training in mass media. Its episodes focus on development issues like agriculture, health and water to name a few, and are produced by women in local folk style. The vibrant radio SEWA team comprises people from poor working class. -- (UNI) -- 29BY29.xml
