Hyderabad | Tuesday, Jun 23 2009 IST

Ambassador of Israel to India Mr Mark Sofer today said that Israel was keen on investing resources to assist Indian and Israeli companies to forge alliances and joint ventures, especially in the sectors of Water & Environmental Technologies, Renewable Energy Resources, Home Land Security, Bio-Technology, Software.

Addressing the Business Meet on "Indo-Israel - Opportunities for Trade and Investment" held in Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry(FAPCCI) here, Mr Sofer said agriculture, water management and irrigation had been tackled well by Israel and that it could co-operate with the state to improve on these lines.

The volume of bilateral trade between India and Israel had grown ten-fold to about $4 billion in 2008. He said Israel was "world number one" in milk production and had almost perfected the art of using water judiciously and minimum pesticides for agriculture.

On Renewable Energy Technologies, he said Israel had made great technological advancement in this area and it was one of the few countries to mandate Solar PV in all its new civil constructions and first in the world to mandate solar hot water in the upcoming new buildings of the country.
