India Athletes to arrive from tomorrow for Sunfeast event
Athletes of national and international fame would arrive here from tomorrow for the mega US Dollar 155,000 Sunfeast World 10K to be held in the city on May 31, Vivek B Singh of Procam International, Promoters of the Run, said today. Talking to newspersons here, Mr Singh said as many as 45 international athletes were invited. The Promoters were planning to invite more athletes and the final entries would be known only after their arrival, he added. Some of the athletes, who have confirmed their participation, included, Rwanda's Dieudonne Disi, Uganda's Boniface Kiprop, Tanzania's Fabiano Joseph, Kenya's Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich and Ethiopia's Bazu Worku. Disi, winner of the Delhi Half Marathon in 2007, had a personal best of 27.22 secs on track and 27.38 secs on the road would have to contend with Boniface Kiprop, the Commonwealth Games Champion of 2006 with a personal best of 26.39 secs on track and 27.58 secs on the road. In women section, joint defending champion Grace Momanyi of Kenya, would have to contend with country-woman Peninah Arusei, Russian Marina Ivanova, Ethiopia's Aslefech Mergia and Holland's Hilda Kibet. Race Director Hugh Jones said the city provides a scenic route for the Run. Every event derives its uniqueness from the route, topography, weather and the overall conditions, adding to the challenge of the athletes face, Mr Jones added. Satyanarayana, Secretary, Karnataka Athletic Association(KAA) said 80 technical officials from the Athletics Federation of India(AFI) and KAA would conduct the event. -- (UNI) -- 27SPM23.xml
