Slumdog kids walk the ramp for Ashima Leena at WLFW
New Delhi | Friday, Mar 20 2009 IST

The Slumdog kids tryst with fame, after the Oscar triumph for the Danny Boyle directed film, continues.

The now famous kids of Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire Azharuddin and Rubina Ali had their hour of limelight at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion week as they walked the ramp for fashion designers Ashima and Leena last night.

The presence of Slumdog kids at the fashion show by designers Ashima and Leena created tremendous buzz at the Eros Intercontinental where the five day event is being held. The two kids, who walked alongside established models, were the star attractions of the show.

The kids themselves seemed at ease as they walked the ramp alongside established models. Infact, the confidence of the kids had the audience clapping and cheering for them. The duo were full of confidence and innocence.

Hordes of mediapersons reached the venue of the show eager to be a part of the event, the first public appearance by the kids in the Capital after the Oscar's.

Fashion designer Leena Singh said making the young kids walk the ramp was an endeavour to bridge the gap between the glamorous and the unglamorous, the rich and the poor. While Rubina wore a gypsy skirt and a sleeveless embroidered top with stone-work and accesorised with a trendy maang-tika, Azharuddin sported a black sherwani with red Palestinian embroidery The show was also attended by parents of the two children. The designer duo had earlier taken the kids to visit Sonia Gandhi to provide flats to the two children who are currently residents of Dharavi in Mumbai. The designer duo said featuring Azharuddin and Rubina on the show was to ensure that the kids remain in public memory for a long time.

''When Azhauddin and Rubina came back from the Oscars and then went back to their slums, our hearts went out to them,'' said Leena, ''We want to keep their glory alive.'' The designer duo also used the event to launch the Ashima-Leena Jai Ho Foundation, which they hope will reach some of the children highlighted in the film.

''There must be several Rubinas in the slums and hopefully this foundation will reach those children and help them with their education,'''Leena said.

After the Oscar win for Slumdog Millionairs', the kids working in the film have been in the limelight at several events. Following their success in Slumdog, they have been cast together in upcoming movie'' Kal Kisne Dekha which will feature cameo roles from Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla.

Also, Azhar and Rubina, along with other kids who acted in the movie were felicitated by superstar Shahrukh Khan at the Filmfare awards function in Mumbai last month.
