Change govt for development: Ravi Shankar Aurangabad | Monday, Mar 2 2009 IST
Appealing the people to exercise their franchise as social duty during the coming elections, founder of Art of Living, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, today said the need was to change the Government for the development of the country. Talking to newsmen before attending the Mahasatsang programme at the Garware Stadium here this evening, Mr Ravi Shankar said people should ignore caste, creed and religion while voting in the elections as the politicians were dividing the communities in the name of religion. When asked who did he think should be the next prime minister, he declined to reply. On the recent deployment of troops to the border post the Mumbai terror attacks on November 26 last year, he said it would be a wrong decision to go to war with Pakistan, which was experiencing serious internal problems. However, he advocated destruction of all the terrorist camps in that country. The yoga guru said he was travelling to different parts of the country to make people aware about their social responsibility and importance of cleanliness through yoga. ''This work can be done by social reformers only and not by rulers,'' Mr Ravi Shankar said. He called for changing the image of the country in the world, which is regarded as an unclean country. ''Rural areas are clean, while big cities have become unclean. So, there is a need to change this image,'' he advocated. -- (UNI) -- 02BY32.xml
