In a major initiative to bridge the digital divide at the grassroots level, about 18 lakh students in 5,000 government schools in Andhra Pradesh will have access to computers through a massive Rs 4000-crore project, launched by the Central and the state governments under public-private partnership. The e-learning project leverages the shared-computing model using Ncomputing's Desktop Virtualisation technology. The provider, Ncomputing, will implement its ultra low-cost solutions for a ten-seater labs it commissioned in each of these schools at Rs 4,000 per student cost, Ncomputing Chief Marketing Officer Raj Shah said here today on the completion of the scheme. The Andhra Pradesh Government had awarded the project on turnkey the contract to eight Education service Providers, including NIIT, on Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis. The first phase of the scheme would be completed in five years. The contract could be extended by renewing it after evalution, Mr Shah said. -- (UNI) -- 21MS47.xml
