Need to promote CSR concept: Faleiro Panaji | Friday, Feb 20 2009 IST
Commissioner for NRI Affairs Eduardo Faleiro today stressed the need to promote the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and urged the companies to have an interaction with the government on this topic. Mr Faleiro was speaking as the chief guest at the 6th national conference on occupational safety, health and environment and CSR Awards ceremony here. He said the CSR practices can open doors to new market opportunities and bring a number of benefits together with greater opportunities to do business with other firms. The companies should have an interaction between the government agencies despite the developments in globalisation, he pointed out. Earlier, the conference on the theme 'Vision 2020 - challanges and strategies' was formally inaugurated by Mr Faleiro. President of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries (GCCI) Nitin Kunkolikar, who was also present, called upon society to locate the people who are doing good service in all the fields of the state. There are certain sections which have remained neglected even today, and companies can play an important role in this respect. He also called upon the companies to concentrate on safety affairs and not to put them at the backstage. Mr V K Jha, secretary of factories and boilers, opined that there is an immense potential for the corporate world in the field of social service. They should not forget that they have an equal responsibility in the field of education, health and poverty alleviation. -- (UNI) -- 20BY58.xml
