E-Learning institute sets up in Tripura Agartala | Wednesday, Feb 11 2009 IST
The Union Ministry of Information Technology has set up the Regional Institute of E-Learning and Information Technology (RIELIT) in Agartala to facilitate youth to have easy access to quality education and training in the field of computer science. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar formally inaugurated the institute in Indranagar here today and handed over the document of 15 acre land allotment for setting up permanent infrastructure in R K Nagar on the outskirts of Agartala. The Centre would spend Rs 45 crore for the project. Mr Sarkar urged RIELIT authority to ensure quality education and try to provide placement facilities to the successful candidates and said, ''We believe IT and allied sciences help to generate quality manpower.'' Talking to mediapersons, Executive Director of the project Dr S Birendra Singh said the Ministry of Development of Northeast Region (DoNER) had sponsored ITES (Call Centre Agent) training course conducted by RIELIT's sister concern DOEACC for Tripura students to tap the English language proficiency and more than 400 youths passed out successfully in past four years. He said RIELIT Agartala had become the 11th Centre of DOEACC Society in the country and fifth in Northeast and would be able to provide training to 600 students simultaneously under different programmes, including BE/B Tech level course in Computer Science/IT for Tripura students. -- (UNI) -- 11CA6.xml
