15 Muslim girls tie knot in mass marriages Hyderabad | Friday, Dec 26 2008 IST
As many as 15 marriages of poor Muslim girls were solemnized at a simple function at the Haj House in Nampally today under the 'Mass Marriage of Poor Muslim Girls' scheme, introduced by the Andhra Pradesh Government. Minorities Welfare Department Principal Secretary Linga Raj Panigrahi, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, said the State Government realised the problem of the poor people and in view of the difficulties faced by the parents in conducting marriage of their daughters, this scheme was introduced. He appreciated efforts of the state level committee in conducting the function in the second phase at a short notice. Articles worth Rs 15,000 were presented to the newly-wed couples on the occasion, a press release said. -- (UNI) -- 26MR16.xml
