Ericsson 3 takes third spot in Volvo Ocean Race Kochi | Monday, Dec 1 2008 IST
Anders Lewander-led Ericsson 3 took the third place in the second leg of the Volvo Ocean Race from Cape Town to Kochi. The team, which reached here this morning, gained six points taking the tally to 14.5 points. Yesterday, Spain's Telefonica Blue team, captained by Bouwe Bekking, took the second spot in the leg. The boat covered the distance of 4,450 nautical miles in 15 days, one hour, 17 minutes and 50 seconds, and reached this port city last evening behind Ericsson 4. The team collected seven points bringing their tally to 19 points. Later, speaking to reporters, Bekking expressed happiness to finish second in the leg though the team was aiming to come in the second leg. Yesterday, ''Ericsson 4,'' skippered by Torben Grael finished first in the second leg to top the eight-team race with 26 points. The yacht took 14 days, 11 hours, 32 minutes and 30 seconds to complete the leg. The other teams participating in the race are Puma, Green Dragon, Delta Lloyd, Team Russia and Telefonica Black. The race, which started on October 11, comprises of 10 legs spanning over 37,000 nautical miles and would conclude on June 27 next year. -- (UNI) -- 01SPM3.xml
