Mumbai attacks may impact on MP poll outcome
Bhopal | Thursday, Nov 27 2008 IST

Madhya Pradesh's political circles were rife with discussion today on whether this state's assembly poll outcome would be in any way influenced by the Mumbai terror attacks.

Voting took place across 230 assembly constituencies in this state today.

''It is an attack on the country and exposes the failure of the Centre's United Progressive Alliance regime and the Maharashtra government. The Bharatiya Janata Party does not wish to indulge in politics over the issue but the public has understood that such incidents are the outcome of the Congress' appeasement policy,'' said BJP Secretary and parliamentarian Prabhat Jha.

The masses would themselves give a fitting reply to the Congress, he claimed.

''The entire world is grappling with such insurgency. The Centre is taking stern steps for tackling militancy and the Mumbai disturbances will not impact this state's electoral outcome,'' said Congress state spokesman Manak Agrawal while condemning the attacks. Political observers believe that the attacks might have a cascading effect on cities and towns where voters might view them as failure to combat extremism.
