Children told to follow Gandhi for a happy world New Delhi | Friday, Nov 14 2008 IST
Children from all over the world assembled here to celebrate the birthday of the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, were today told about the relevance of the values practiced and preached by Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Minister of Human Resource Development Arjun Singh, who inaugurated a week-long National Childrens Assembly & Integration Camp to mark the occasion, said, ''Let us all live in peace and harmony with each other and follow the path of righteousness and values and enliven Mahatma Gandhi in the hearts and minds of one and all.'' He called upon children to stay united, to interact and intermingle, to show compassion and to be sensitive towards others. The theme of this years National Childrens Assembly & Integration Camp is 'Promoting Gandhian Values of Bonding for Truth, Peace & Non-violence'. The theme has been chosen so that the values which are being progressively eroded may be revived and the children may be motivated to create a world which is not torn by differences of border, region and religion, the organisers said. An International Conference of Children on the same theme was also inuagurated. The Assembly & Camp will conclude on November 20. Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Mr M A A Fatmi presided over the Function. Addressing children, he emphasised the relevance of Gandhian values and said people need them even more today. Mr Singh released some Bal Bhavan Publications on the occasion. These include four posters designed by children of Bal Bhavan. Mr Fatmi released the childrens magazine 'Akkar Bakkar'. Thereafter, a colourful cultural programme was presented by children on the theme of the assembly. -- (UNI) -- 14DI17.xml
