Atwal aims to clinch Singapore Open title
Sentosa | Monday, Oct 27 2008 IST

India's Arjun Atwal is all set to make a brilliant debut to lift a Cross-Straits double when he competes in the five million dollar Barclays Singapore Open, starting from November 13-16.

Atwal, the winner of this year's Malaysian Open, will be playing in the Barclays Singapore Open at Sentosa Golf Club for the first time. However, the Lion City has offered a few happy moments to the the Indian golfer, as he won the Singapore Masters, which is a joint-sanctioned tournament with the European Tour - in 2002.

''I have heard good things about Sentosa- I am told it is a tough course and I'm looking forward to playing there,'' the Orlando-based golfer said.

''I know it's a good field (including Padraig Harrington, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Adam Scott and Choi Kyung-ju) there as well and I'm looking forward to it. I've not played previously at Sentosa. I would rather play the tough courses than the easy ones where everyone is shooting the lights out.'' The 35-year-old, however, was the first player from India to earn a US PGA Tour card in 2003 and a recently the winner on the Nationwide Tour.

The stylish stroker will also compete in the big end-of-season events in the region in a bid to win the Asian Tour's Order of Merit for the second time.
