'Amar Singh should apologise for his deplorable conduct': BJP

The BJP today demanded that Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh apologise to the nation for his ''utterly shameful and highly irresponsible'' statement casting doubts about the encounter in Jamia Nagar shortly after giving a cheque to the family of Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma recognising his supreme sacrifice. BJP spokesman Ravishankar Prasad said it was disgusting that Mr Singh after submitting a cheque to the family was now seeking to blame the Delhi Police for the killing of the brave officer.

"This is the most ugly and cruel form of vote bank politics we have seen.

Such is the feeling that the family members of the martyred official have returned the cheque back to Mr Singh", Mr Prasad said. "We salute the family for exposing the hollowness of these persons and their intentions by sending the cheque back to the giver", he said.

He said,'' the nation was witnessing a disturbing trend where the political parties themselves had taken the place of self-appointed intellectuals and some sponsored human rights organisations to launch a smear campaign against the security forces whenever they undertook action against the terrorists. Thereafter they would create confusion about the event and order a probe just to demoralise the police and slow down their actions. '' He alluded to the role of the Congress party and its leaders ''particularly Union Minister Kapil Sibal and Salman Khurshid in demanding the probe. After this Congress General Secretary would issue a noncontroversial statement, If there is any doubt there should be a probe". ''This is part of a well-orchestrated plan of the Congress party and its allies wanting to make inroads among the minorities and the country is witnessing a race for 'naked vote bank politics','' Mr Prasad alleged. Mr Prasad wondered about the conspicious silence on the part of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi on the statements of ''Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and Steel Minister Ramvilas Paswan hailing the country's major terror organisaton SIMI as a cultural organisation. Their silence speaks about tacit support to the 'communal and vote bank politics' of the two Ministers.'' the BJP leader added.

''Mr Paswan went to the extent of demanding giving citizenship to the Bangladeshis in the country upto August 2008, let alone condemning the communal politics at its worst hurting the national interest,'' Mr Prasad said. ''The PM did not even disapprove of their statements,'' he remarked.

"The Congress and its UPA allies want to give a message to the terrorists that action against them was tradeable for votes", he alleged.
