UPA Govt committed to goal of education for all: PM Chennai/Salem | Jumat, Sep 5 2008 IST
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the UPA Government at the Centre was committed to the goal of access for education to all sections of the society. Speaking after receiving the Honorary Doctorate at a special convocation of the 150th year of the Madras University here, he said the government had launched a new phase in the educational empowerment of people. "Our focus is not just on a quantitative expansion of edcuational opportunities, but also on qualitative improvement,"" he added. He also spoke on the need for providing special attention to education of girl child and women's education. Dr Singh also said steps should be taken to facilitate the reverse flow of global Indian talent resident abroad into India's knowledge institutions. In his speech at an another programme to inaugurate Corporate Apollo Hospitals' of taking healthcare to semi urban and urban areas through 'Reach Hospitals,' Dr Singh said the National Rural Health Mission launched by the UPA Government had been yielding good results and this must be consolidated.
