Sony | Jumat, Sep 5 2008 IST

For most Indian consumers, now Kingfisher is to airlines what Nokia is to cellphone.

According to a recent survey conducted by market insight company TNS in association with marketing and advertising publication Media, Sony, Nokia, Hewlett Packard (HP) and ICICI are among the brands most people called 'best' in their respective categories.

The survey titled 'Asia Pacific's Top 1,000 Brands' finds that for Indians, ICICI is the best brand in financial services, followed by the State Bank of India as their next choice.

Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher with its model-like air hostesses has been ranked as the most trusted brand in airlines, while Naresh Goyal-led Jet Airways as the next preferred brand in the category.

In the consumer goods category, the respondents place LG as the top brand in air conditioners, Sony in cameras and televisions, HP in laptops and Nokia in mobile phones, with Cadbury being ranked as the most favourite chocolate.

Among hotels, people placed 'Taj' as the best and 'Oberoi' as the next best brand. The survey finds that brands like Sony, Nokia, ICICI and HP are in the forefront not just in India but also across various markets in the Asian region.

Altogether 3,600 people across 10 countries were interviewed for the survey. These included consumers from Japan, Korea, Australia, China, India, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

The categories presented to each participant included financial services, automotive, health, retail, food, beverages, alcohol and cigarettes, electronic goods, media and tele-communications, baby products, household products, toiletries and cosmetics.
