India to meet Korea in Junior Asia Cup final

Defending champions India will meet Korea in the final of the sixth Asian Junior Men's Hockey Championships to be played here on July 18. Korea, who were the bronze medallist in the previous edition, defeated Japan 4-2 (2-0) in the second semi-final while India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan 3-1 (1-0) in a hard fought first semi-final. Korean drag flicker Nam Hyun Woo scored all the four goals for his team, including the second hat-trick of this year's edition. He converted three penalty corners in the 9th, 14th and 38th minutes of the match. Japan reduced Korea's lead in the 61st minute through a penalty conversion by Kenji Kitazato who took an indirect shot. Korea increased their lead in the 64th minute when Nam Hyun Woo smashed home from a penalty corner. In the dying moments of the match, Japan once again reduced the margin through Ryohei Kawai. However, Korea managed to hold on for the win. Earlier, defending champions India defeated three-time champions Pakistan 3-1. The winners led 1-0 at the interval. It was a hard fought match with tempers running high. The umpires were forced to send Pakistan defender Mohammad Irfan out for 10 minutes after a scufle broke out between the two teams. The jubilient crowd enjoyed every moment of this match, as they waved the tri-colour and chanted slogans encouraging the Indian players.
