11 escape from Chhattisgarh jail Jashpur | Thursday, May 15 2008 IST
Eleven inmates today escaped from the District Jail here after tying up the gate sentry but one of them was caught later, police said. A group of inmates pushed Guard Sudheer Ekka to the ground at about 1500 hrs, tied him up, snatched the key, opened the main gate and escaped. Another guard chased the escaping inmates and caught Narendra. Most of the others -- comprising Nirmal, Ratan, Kamlesh, Deepak Kujoor, Sobiyal, Babulal, Nanhuram, Dashrath, Dhaneshwar and Ashok -- are charged with grave crimes. The prison houses more than 200 inmates. Following a dispute last week, an inquiry led to seizing of more than 50 liquor bottles.
