Curfew lifted in Jaipur
Jaipur | Thursday, May 15 2008 IST

Day curfew which was imposed in 13 police station areas in the Pink City in the wake of serial blasts on Tuesday was lifted this morning.

The curfew was imposed from 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs as a precautionary measure but now in view of prevailing peace and normalcy in the city the curfew has been lifted, a police spokesperson told UNI.

However, prohibitory orders under Section 144 would remain in force till May 21 evening, he said.

Meanwhile UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today visited Jaipur to meet the blast victims in hospitals and to inspect sites of black Tuesday blasts.

Ms Gandhi termed the serial blasts ''unfortunate incident'' while Mr Patil condemned them as act of cowardice and crime against humanity.

The Home Minister expressed satisfaction over working of investigating agencies which are investigating the serial blasts and said that they had got some vital clues.

He assured of full cooperation from the Centre to the state government.

CPI secretary D Raja also visited Jaipur to take stock of the situation.

Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team(SIT) constituted to investigate the case was examining the e-mail and vedio clippings sent by terrorist outfit Indian Mujhahideen to own the responsibility of the serial blasts.

Police has also released a sketch of a 25-year-old Bengali youth who reportedly bought bicycles from cycle stores in Kishanpol Bazar.

The state police said they had nabbed two people in this connection. However, unofficial sources said that several people including some cycle dealers were detained for interrogation.

The blasts here occurred between 1920 hrs and 1947 hrs on Tuesday near religious places in Chandpol, Hawamahal, Sanganeri Gate, near City Kotwali, Maniharon Ka Rasta, Manak Chowk Khanda and LMB Hotel Johri Bazar. At least 63 people were killed and 216 injured in the blasts.

Most of the bombs were planted in cycles and a car.
