Katiyar seeks SPG cover; UP DGP returns security Lucknow | Thursday, May 15 2008 IST
After seeking Special Protection Group (SPG) security for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, the state government today sought a similar security cover for BJP Rajya Sabha member Vinay Katiyar. Home secretary spokesperson said here the government will sent a proposal to the Centre to provide Mr Katiyar, one of the accussed in the Babri Masjid demolition case, SPG cover due to threat perception. Intelligence Bureau (IB) had also issued advisory on threat perceptions by terrorists on the BJP leader. Presently, he had been provided with Z-plus security cover. The BJP leader will be the second politician after the UP CM for whome state government had demanded SPG cover. Meanwhile, Mr Katiyar told UNI that his requirement for the SPG cover was genuine as several terrorist group had openly theatened him after demolition of disputed structure in 1992.
