Five ODI ban on Harbhajan is perfect: Nanavati

BCCI-appointed Commissioner Sudhir Nanavati, who probed the 'Slapgate' involving Harbhajan Singh and S Sreesanth, today said the cricket body's punishment of banning the temperamental off-spinner for 5 ODI's was a 'perfect' judgement. ''The punishment of banning Harbhajan for 5 ODI's by the BCCI was more nor less seeing the entire episode in totality,'' said Mr Nanavati, who is also emminent lawyer of Gujarat High Court. The Mumbai Indians off-spinner Harbhajan Singh had slapped Kings XI Punjab pacer S Sreesanth after their IPL match at Mohali on April 25. Following the incident, Harbhajan was banned from the remaining matches of the IPL and was fined match-fees of around Rs 3-crore. Interacting with mediapersons at a 'Meet The Press' function by Gujarat Media Club here this evening, Mr Nanavati said, ''The three major points -- appology to Sreesanth, readiness to apologise to him publicly and promise to never do it again --are instant reactions of Harbhajan, in respond to the BCCI's notice to him over the issue, and this had saved his day''. During the appearance before Mr Nanavati, in his reaction over the episode Harbhajan's describing it as the second-most sad day of his life, after death of his (Harbhajan's) father, was a clear indication of his sincerity to the acceptance and apology over the incident, Mr Nanavati said.
