Govt to conduct 'Rytu Chaitanya Yatra' from May 17 Hyderabad | Thursday, May 15 2008 IST
With the Election Commission clearing the decks, the Andhra Pradesh government today announced holding of the 'Rytu Chaitanya Yatra' from May 17 to June three to prepare the farmers for the Khariff season. Announcing this at a press conference here, Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy, who had been served notice by the Election Commission for his alleged objectionable remarks against the EC before it took a decision on the issue, said he would kick off the programme from Kadapa on Saturday. In the poll-bound districts, only the officials of agriculture and other allied departments would take part in the programme and not the people's representatives, he said. Simultaneously, other ministers, MPs and MLAs would launch in other places the programmes designed to educate over one crore farmers to cut costs and improve productivity to cash in on the opportunity provided by the world agricultural commodities market in the WTO era. Meanwhile, the state Chief Electoral Officer will leave for New Delhi along with state Chief Secretary K Ramakanth Reddy tomorrow to discuss poll-related issues with the Central Chief Election Commissioner. -- (UNI) -- 15MS55.xml
