Pak troops violate 2003 ceasefire in Kashmir
Srinagar | Wednesday, May 14 2008 IST

Pakistani troops violated the 2003 ceasefire on borders when they opened indiscriminate firing on Indian positions in Tangdhar sector in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistani troops resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons on Indian forward position in the sector yesterday, official sources said.

The firing continued for about half an hour, they said.

This was the first ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in the sector after both India and Pakistan came to a truce along the Line of Control (LOC) and International Border(IB) in November, 2003 in Jammu and Kashmir. However, there were minor violations in the past.

The firing by the Pak troops came about two days after Chief of the Army Staff General Deepak Kapoor visited the forward areas in the Kashmir valley during his three-day visit. A defence ministry spokesman confirming the firing by the Pak troops said no one was injured in the incident.

This was a ceasefire violation, he said adding a flag meeting was being arranged with Pak troops soon.
