Aspiring actor held in Oshiwara murder case Mumbai | Friday, May 9 2008 IST
The police today arrested a 25-year-old struggling actor, hailing from Punjab, for the gruesome murder of Vikramjeet Singh, a resident of Amritsar. Singh's body was found yesterday morning at Joggers Park in Oshiwara. Swatantra Pal Singh, also resident of Amritsar in Punjab, was picked up by police from Oshiwara in North West Mumbai while they were conducting routine investigations, police said. Swatantra Pal, who has acted in Punjabi videos and also worked as assistant director for a Punjabi film, had promised Vikramjeet, also a resident of Amritsar, passage to the US and Canada for a sum of Rs 7 lakh. Vikramjeet had paid an advance of Rs 1.5 lakh to Swatantra in December last year, and was to pay the balance amount after three months upon materialisation of the deal. As per their agreement, Vikramjeet had arrived in the city on May 7 and met Swatantra at Andheri and an argument ensued between the two over the deal. In a fit of fury, Swatantra ended up slitting Vikramjeet's throat and covered his body in a mattress and dumped it at an isolated spot in Joggers Park. He was, however, spotted by the watchman while trying to dispose of the body. Swatantra Pal will be produced in court tomorrow. -- (UNI) -- 09BY25.xml
