Kerala Police confirm Interpol notice against Swami Kochi | Friday, May 9 2008 IST
Kerala police today confirmed that an Interpol lookout notice had been issued against Swami Amritananthachaithanya alias Santhosh Madhavan, whose guest house premises were raided by police here yesterday. Senior police officials told UNI that no incriminating documents were found during the raid on the 'Shantitheeram' guest house. An Interpol lookout notice had been issued against Santosh Madhavan and his accomplice Saif Ali Khan for allegedly cheating an Indian woman in UAE of 400,000 Dirhams in 2004, the officials said. ''As there is no extradition treaty between India and the UAE, and both the accused and the victim are Indian nationals, the case will have to be tried in a court in India. As and when a court in India requires Santosh Madhavan alias Swami Amritananthachaithanya's presence in court, we will take further action,'' the police officials said. Stating that the police had not received any complaint against the swami, the officials said the police conducted the raid following media reports. However, the officials did not rule out the possibility of summoning the swami for questioning. Meanwhile, the controversial swami surfaced today and claimed in an interview to a local television channel that he had not defrauded anyone. He claimed that a section of the media had raked up the issue to tarnish his image. Admitting that the photograph and details on the Interpol website were his, he said he had not received any notice from any authority. He said he had met senior CBI and police officials here a few days ago to find out what he was supposed to do. He said he was present in his house during the raid on the guest house owned by his 'Shantitheeram Trust'. -- (UNI) -- 09MS52.xml
