Rahul to address tribal and dalit conferences
Bhubaneswar | Friday, May 9 2008 IST

AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi will address state level dalit and tribal conferences during his one day visit to Orissa on May 13, Indian Youth Congress president Ashok Tanwar said here today.

Talking to newspersons, Mr Tanwar said both the dalit and the tribal conference would be held separately at Cuttack to identify the potential leadership quality of the community youths.

Mr Kanwar said Mr.Gandhi would first arrive at Angul to attend a thanksgiving ceremony by the Orissa unit of the INTUC in the wake of the public sector National Aluminium Company Limited(NALCO) conferring the Navaratna status, on it.

He would later address a public meeting there organised jointly by the INTUC and the Pradesh Congress before leaving for Cuttack to address the dalit and the tribal conferences.

Mr Kanwar claimed that Mr Gandhi had taken a keen interest in the development of Orissa and as a result the UPA government had announced setting up of IIT and Central University in the state.

During the conferences, Mr Gandhi, the Indian Youth Congress president, would be apprised of the various problems faced by the dalits and the tribals in the state.

During his brief visit, Mr Gandhi is scheduled to meet some senior Congress leaders. This would be his second visit to the state during the last three months.

Earlier in March, he toured several tribal districts in Western, Northern and Southern Orissa during his four-days stay.
