Government announces national awards for e-Governance

With a view to recognise and promote excellence in implementing e-Governance initiatives in the country, the government has announced the national awards for e-Governance for 2007-08.

The awards will be given away by Minister for Communication and Information Technology A Raja, during the 11th National Conference on e-Governance to be held at Panchkula, Haryana on February 7-8. An offical release issued here today said, Grapenet, the project of Agriculture and Food Product Export Development Authority (APEDA), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has been awarded the Gold under the newly introduced 'Special Sectoral Award' category, which had 'Agriculture' as the focus sector for 2007-08. The Internet ticketing project of Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has been awarded the Gold in the category of 'Outstanding Performance in Citizen Centric Service Delivery', while the Gold for the 'Best Government Website' has been awarded to the Tamil Nadu Government. The other Gold winners includes Ministry of Corporate Affairs, in the category of 'Excellence in Government Process Re-engineering Integrated Workflow System for Paperless Admission', Government of Haryana in the category of 'Exemplary Horizontal Transfer of ICT-based Best Practice Tele-Bhugtan'; Collectorate of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh in the category of 'Innovative Usage of Technology in e-Governance and Electronic Procurement System'; SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant, Orissa in the category of 'Exemplary Usage of ICT by PSUs', the release added.

These awards are presented every year by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DAR&PG) jointly with the Department of Information Technology.
