The French government has decided to bestow the award of Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) to noted academician Dr Alka Pande. The award is a recognition of Dr Pande's contribution to Indian cultural life and to the development of Indo-French cooperation in the field of art, a French Embassy release today said. French Ambassador to India Dominique Girard will confer the award on Dr Pande tomorrow. Her book The New-Age Kamasutra for Women, will also be launched on this occasion. The French government honours persons who have distinguished themselves by their creativity in the field of art, culture and literature or for their contribution to the influence of the arts in France and throughout the world, by awarding them, it added. Previous Indian awardees of the Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres include film critic and editor Aruna Vasudev and Chairman of Trveni Industries Dhruv Sawhney. UNI PA AT RS1329
