A two-day conference aimed at interaction and integration of knowledge on various aspects of disaster risk reduction and management begins here Wednesday. "Earlier the emphasis was on post disaster relief management but now the focus has shifted to draw plans to prevent disaster and to prepare beforehand," said National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) executive director P.G. Dhar Chakrabarti. He said the India Disaster Management Congress would also felicitate 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus. "Though Yunus would not be able to attend the conference, the Bangladesh high commissioner would be present to collect the award on his behalf," Chakrabarti said. Around 350 technical papers would be presented during the conference, which would also be attended by participants from Bangladesh and Pakistan, as also Geneva's International Strategy for Disaster Reduction, Geneva.
