Security intensified in Arunachal's Changlang district
Itanagar | October 09, 2006 3:40:12 PM IST

Security has been beefed up in Arunachal's Changlang district following rise in law and order problem allegedly by the student community.

The district administration has expressed concern over the increased number of crimes and offences allegedly by students, particularly the hostel boarders of government higher secondary school, creating law and order problem, official sources informed.

The deputy commissioner (DC) of the district has directed the police to expedite night patrolling in the township area for ensuring peace and tranquility in the district.

In an emergency meeting with the district Superintendent of Police, J S Sidhu, zila parishad members, school authorities, Principal Rang Frah Government College and public leaders recently, the DC said in most of the cases registered in the Changlang Police Station, the offenders were students from Higher Secondary School, Changlang.

''The recent crime statistics of the district reveals that in most of the offences there were involvement of school children, who happened to be hostel boarders of H.S. School, which is indicative of the unhealthy academic environment in the school campus,'' the DC said and warned of stern action against the wrongdoers.

Emphasising on the need of proper guidance and counselling of the students from the concerned school authorities and their parents, the DC informed that there were reports of school children allegedly involved in extortion from shopkeepers of Changlang Bazar.

Taking stock over the deteriorating law and order situation, the DC has also ordered immediate closure of all unauthorized wine shops in the township, sources added.
