Stranded lorry owners stage rasta roko Byndoor Karnataka | August 02, 2006 12:40:57 AM IST
The lorry owners association of North Kanara and Kundapura today resorted to a road blockade for over 30 minutes at Ottinele near here in protest against the prevention of their manganese-ore-laden lorries at Bydnoor, the northern border of Udupi district, since Sunday last. The agitators shouted slogans against district in-charge Minister Dr V S Acharya and Udupi MLA K Raghupathy Bhat. Addressing reporters at Ottinele, North Karnataka Lorry Owners Association President Sashidhar Koravi charged the district police with stopping their lorries without any written orders or prior intimation to the lorry owners. The drivers and cleaners of over 100 lorries were stranded on the road, he added. The agitators also took out a procession through the main thoroughfares of Udupi and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner. UNI MA GD LS GC2235
