Jayalalitha names Panneerselvam opposition leader Chennai | May 13, 2006 1:15:14 AM IST Outgoing Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalitha Friday said she would not attend the assembly "unless needed" and named O. Panneerselvam as the AIADMK leader of opposition in the house. After a meeting of the 60 newly-elected AIADMK legislators, Jayalalitha told reporters she would stay away from the assembly as she feared the newly-elected DMK would be vindictive against her. She reminded the media that during DMK rule in 1989, attempts were made to "attack her personally" when she became the AIADMK head on the death of its founder, M.G. Ramachandran. At that time she had vowed to return to the assembly only as the chief minister, Jayalalitha added. (IANS)
